Assistant Professor of Philosophy (Continental Philosophy)

The Department of Philosophy is searching for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Philosophy with an area of specialization (AOS) in Continental Philosophy (with particular interest in critical theory, post-structuralism, 19th century philosophy). The area of competence (AOC) is open, but the Department is especially interested in teaching competence in Asian, Feminism, Modern Philosophy, Logic, and Philosophy of Science.  

Expectations of teaching include: introductory, middle level and advanced undergraduate courses, graduate teaching in the area of specialization, mentoring of graduate student research, and directing theses at the undergraduate and graduate level. The University of Oregon is on the academic quarter system and the standard teaching load is presently five courses across three terms each year.   

Undergraduate teaching experience, an appropriate record of research and publication, and a PhD are required. Salary will be competitive depending on qualifications.  

The Department is pluralistic, with an expansive view of the discipline, and provides an intellectual climate conducive to multidisciplinary scholarship. 3/3 teaching load. Candidate will teach some Core courses, including Ethics.

Job Posting: Visiting Positions at University of Oregon

Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning September 2009.

Two positions. (1) AOS: Continental Philosophy; (2) AOS: American Philosophy.

Each position will teach at least one large lecture course with graduate teaching assistants. Ability to teach advanced courses in Continental or American Philosophy, including graduate courses, and at least two of the following is required: Phil 110, Human Nature; Phil 311 History of Modern Philosophy or Phil 325, Logic, Argument and Inquiry; Phil 312, History of 19th Century Philosophy; and Phil 444, Feminist Ethics. Canada Research Chair in Environment and Culture

The Department of Philosophy at Laurentian University invites applications for the position of a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Environment and Culture at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The CRC Program was created by the Government of Canada to cultivate world-class research and development. More information concerning the CRC is available at www.chairs.gc.ca.

Applicants for this tenure-track position should demonstrate a record of research excellence and the potential to emerge as an internationally recognized expert in environmental and cultural studies. The position will be contingent on being approved by the Canada Research Program. The candidates should have the ability to attract excellent graduate students and have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching in both the graduate and the undergraduate level. The successful candidate will have an active research interest in at least one of the four following areas: aesthetics, gender, health, and/or indigenous studies. Candidates are expected to complement the pre-existing strengths of Laurentian’s philosophy department, areas that include contemporary continental philosophy, aesthetics, ethics, gender and health studies, social and political thought, and environmental philosophy. A strong commitment toward interdisciplinary research would be an asset. They will also be expected to participate in, and help supervise graduate work in, the Interdisciplinary Humanities M.A. in Interpretation and Values and the interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Human Studies.

Normally, the Tier II competition is open to candidates who have at most ten years experience from the highest degree at the time of nomination.
